You’ve reminded me that holidays are for remembering. Your post brought back the many fun memories we had playing “shuffleboard” on the wooden board built by my great uncle from Sweden when I was a child. (He clearly assimilated with the Grand Rapids Dutch community as evident in his shuffleboard design.) Unfortunately, it was unexpectedly donated when my parents downsized to a condo over 30 years ago. I find myself scouring marketplace hoping to find it...I’m not ready to give it up yet:) But the real lesson learned is the value of traditions and the memories made from simple things in life like food, games, outdoor activities and local holiday events that stay with us and mean more as the years go by.
