I’m kicking off this fall season with the first official (f)unfussy newsletter! Every Sunday, I will send out a newsletter (subscribe below!) rounding up fun and interesting ideas, links, and stories to start your week. I am certain this will continue to evolve as our community grows. My hope is this becomes a soft place to land as you ease back into your weekly routines.
Clicking a link in this newsletter and finding something you love may give (f)unfussy a commission at no cost to you. We only promote things that we believe fussy people (like us) will enjoy. Thank you for your support!
A few things I am fussing over this week:
Autumn
It sometimes threatens to feel cliché, but there is a reason we all go a little fall crazy as soon as Pumpkin Spice Lattes hit the menu at Starbucks. After the go-go-go of summer, I am ready to slow down, take long sips of hot tea on a cool evening, and invite some stillness back into my life.
Cheap Old Houses
This past week we had the privilege of attending a book signing, house tour, and dinner at Farrand Hall in Colon, MI. It was so cool to meet Elizabeth and Ethan of Cheap Old Houses fame, they are more down-to-earth and charming than I could have imagined. Even cooler, Farrand Hall is featured in the Cheap Old Houses book (page 86!). It was incredible to be able to see this beautiful property through the lens of preservation with people who don’t sweat the small stuff but do appreciate a little fussiness.
Charades
This weekend, we hosted a group of middle and high school boys at our lake house. It was loud, chaotic, and wonderful; and my husband and I most definitely need a nap! We had a bevy of activities to keep them entertained, but my favorite may have been playing Death Charades. Have you played? It is the charades you know and love, but each card has you acting out a different, often wacky, demise. A little macabre? Perhaps. A game that has pre-teens and teenagers begging to play with us? That’s a win in my book.
A Sort-of Book Club
(f)unfussy is starting a (cook)book club! Beginning October 1st, I will be diving wooden spoon first into a new cookbook and would love for you to join me! For those who love the idea of a book club, but hardly have time to put dinner on the table, this one is for you. The October cookbook will be What to Cook When You Don’t Feel Like Cooking by the incomparable Caroline Chambers. More information will be shared this week. Feel free to grab a copy of Caroline’s book from your local library or purchase it via the affiliate link and cook along with me!
Hi Lauren! Excited to find you on Substack. So cool that you met Elizabeth and Ethan!!!
